Throughout the years, Disney MGM Studios has been
a work in progress. Star Tours, a ride dedicated
to the Star Wars trilogy opened in 1990; and the
next year saw the creation of Sunset Boulevard, including
the haunted, elevator drop Tower of Terror ride.
Disney has also dedicated MGM to showcasing rides,
plays and other attractions based on their current
animated and live action films for kids. "The
Little Mermaid" and "The Hunchback of Notre
Dame" have shows, "101 Dalmatians" has
a behind-the-scenes tour, and the characters from "Toy
Story" and "Hercules" have been paraded
through the streets of the park in recent years.
How to Get There: Disney MGM is located just south
of the Magic Kingdom. Visitors to MGM can take exit
25B off Interstate 4 onto north SR 192, the regular
Magic Kingdom exit. Stay in the right hand lanes
and take the first right after you get off 192. Continue
straight into the main gate of Disney-MGM and cast
members will direct you on how to manoeuvre through
the parking lot.
A tram will take you from the parking lot to the
main entrance, although it's not a far walk for industrious
visitors. Write down the name and number of the lane
where you parked. This is especially good advice
for visitors of MGM because the lot's sections are
named for aspects of film like "Comedy," as
opposed to the recognisable character names of the
Magic Kingdom.
